'The devil made me kill my twin daughters'

A man who poisoned his twin daughters to death said they had confessed to being the witches responsible for his life woes.

Anyanime Festus killed his own children on allegations of being witches

CrossRiverWatch reports that the 33-year-old man, Anyanime Festus had, on January 11, 2017, forced the 11-year-old female twins to drink poisoned malt drink after they allegedly confessed to being witches and had confessed to killing his parents as well being responsible for all his calamities in life.

Festus who was arrested by the State Police Command after residents reported the case, was said to have led the twins, Emediong and Mfoniso, into a bush where he forced them to drink the malt he had mixed with acid.

The incident allegedly happened in the Uyanga community in Akampka Local Government Area of the state.

While confessing to the crime, Festus, a taxi driver, reportedly said:

"I have not been myself since I killed my children. I was not myself when I killed them. The devil made me do what I did. I poisoned them through the malt I gave them to drink. I did it because they confessed to being witches.”

Confirming the incident and the arrest of the suspect, the Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Hafiz Inuwa, said Festus confessed to killing the twin after they confessed to being witches.

“The incident happened on January 11, 2017, in Uyanga community in Akamkpa Local Government Area following a report to the police by one and

They reported that the two female identical twins were found lying along Uyanga bush track in Akamkpa.

According to them, one of the twins was found dead while the other was lying down and was unable to speak.

Much later, the other twin that was lying down was able to speak and she gave her name as Emediong Festus and that of her twin sister as Mfoniso Festus, both 11 years.

She said that on January 10, 2017, their father told them he was taking them to their mother, and on getting to a bush track, he gave them malt drink suspected to be mixed with poisonous substances.

Shortly after they drank the malt, her sister died and their father abandoned them there.”

Inuwa added that the other twin later died in the hospital and both corpses had been deposited at the General Hospital, Akamkpa, for an autopsy.
