Man jailed for slapping his wife's friend

A man who slapped his wife's friend for gossiping about him has been remanded in prison.

Oluokun Olarenwaju, a 44-year-old Lagos based man, has been remanded in prison by an Ejigbo Magistrates' Court for slapping his wife's friend for allegedly telling his wife he was seen with another woman, reports PM News.

Olarewaju was said not to be happy with his wife's friend gossip which he felt could break his home and in a fit of anger while confronting the woman, identified as Christiana Duntoye, gave her a hot slap.

It was gathered that the woman who lives on the same Rasaki Tijani Street, Ikotun, with the Olarewaju family, had told his wife that she saw the man with another woman.

The bitter wife then confronted her husband with the allegation of engaging in extra-marital affairs thereby changing his attitude towards her and the children.

Olarenwaju who did not take the accusation kindly, cajoled his wife into telling him the source of the information and the wife told him.

On the day of the incident, the couple were quarreling when the gossip monger went to their house and the man confronted her and ordered her out of his house, accusing her of trying to break his home.

In the heat of the argument, he allegedly slapped her three times and angered by the assault, Duntoye dashed to the Ikotun Police Division and reported the matter and Olarenwaju was arrested and charged to court under the Criminal Code.

When the charge of assault was read to him, Olarenwaju pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was however remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri Prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition, while the matter was adjourned till 30 November, 2015.
