22-yr-old girl docked for stealing boyfriend's phones

A 22-year-old lady, Juliet Mathew, has been dragged to an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing her boyfriend's phones valued at  N90,000.

The suspect who resides at Pipeline Street, Iyana-Odo in Igando area of the state, is accused of stealing three phones belonging to Moses Ogundeyi, her boyfriend who resides at 2, Ilare Close, Mafoluku, Oshodi, on April 1, 2015.

The Prosecutor in the case, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that Mathew stole the phones when she went to visit her man on the said date.

Olatunde said:

"The accused stole one blackberry Q5 valued at N25,000, a Samsung X3 worth N45,000, a Nokia valued at N5,000 and one Spectranet browsing modem valued at 15,000.

The accused went to sleep over in the complainant’s house and the following morning when the complainant went to take his bath, the accused picked his phones and ran away.

She was later arrested after a month of her disappearing with the phones.

The accused admitted stealing those items, she claimed she sold all the items at the computer village to one Chimezie for N25, 000 because she needed money urgently and that her boyfriend refused to give her."

The offence, Olatunde said, contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which carries a three-year jail term as penalty for offenders.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum while the case was adjourned till June 9 for mention.
