An angry mob, tired of the incessant robbery attacks they have been experiencing in the city of Onitsha, Anambra State, resorted to jungle justice when they nabbed two suspected armed robbery suspects after they snatched some motorcycles, and burnt them to ashes before the police could come to their rescue.
According to reports, the hoodlums were said to be terrorising residents of Onitsha and other neighbouring communities till they met their waterloo when they were caught and set ablaze after they were terrible beaten.
It was gathered that the criminals had robbed an Hausa trader who had just come into the town to transact his business, when they snatched a bag containing a huge amount of money. The unfortunate robbers were apprehended when they wanted to escape on their operational motorcycle after shooting the man in broad daylight.
According to an eyewitness, the robbers met their match when they shot at the man but the bullet did not penetrate his body.
"The robbers accosted the Hausa trader along the Onitsha/Enugu expressway, close to the market, and ordered him to hand over the money he was carrying in a bag to them.
As the man resisted the order, they shot at him three consecutive times but the bullets did not penetrate his body.
Seeing that the bullet did not penetrate, they sensed danger and were about to run away when the trader brought out his dagger and stabbed one of them on the chest.
Luck, however, ran out of them as an on-coming vehicle hit their bike and they both fell off.
Those who were watching the incident immediately mobilized themselves, turned to a mob, arrested the two robbers and set them ablaze."
