The Ogun State Police Command is battling to unravel the reason why a 47-year-old man, Gbenga Ogunfolabo, stabbed his wife, Bosede, to death, over a family misunderstanding that could have been settled amicably.
The killer husband, according to Police sources, flew into a temper during a fight with his wife and reportedly broke a bottle with which he repeatedly stabbed the hapless woman till she gave up the ghost.
The incident which happened in Remo local government area of the state, has thrown the area into great confusion and many are still finding it difficult to come to terms with the dastardly act.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the incident could have been swept under the carpet by the families of the couple but for a relation who tipped the police before they swung into action and arrested the said Gbenga.
Pressure was mounted on the deceased’s family by the family of the suspect, but one of the relations of the deceased decided to report the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the suspect.
The state police PPRO also reported that in the course of their investigations, they realised that the husband, a farmer, was in the habit of maltreating and physically abusing the deceased, a petty trader, before he eventually killed her.
