16-yr-old girl attempts suicide after quarrel with brother

A 16-year-old girl whose brother scolded because of her attitude, decided to take her life in Abuja.

Unable to overcome her depression after a quarrel with her elder brother, a 16-year-old girl attempted committing suicide after consuming a poisonous liquid substance suspected to be sniper, in Dutse, a satellite town in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, Daily Trust reports.

It was gathered that the victim who recently completed her secondary school education, was said to be suffering from depression as a result of quarrels she had with her elder brother.

According to a neighbour, the girl who managed the brother’s car wash business, was always reprimanded by her brother for always coming home late, an attitude the brother did not take kindly with.

On the fateful day she attempted suicide, the brother had allegedly descended on the girl as soon as she returned home, leaving her with minor injuries and her eye glasses damaged.

The next morning, as the brother was leaving, he instructed the girl to sprinkle the substance in the house against mosquitoes and ants but the girl had another plans for herself.

“After sprinkling the substance in the rooms, she drank the remaining quantity in the container after dropping a suicide note,” the neighbour added.

It was learnt that the girl was rescued by neighbours who overheard her screaming and quickly rushed her to the Kubwa General Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
