Dare2Dream Unilag: Bigger and better from the start!

Though the campus had been a part previous seasons, this was undoubtedly the best Day 1 Unilag ever witnessed.

Though the campus had been a part previous seasons, this was undoubtedly the best Day 1 Unilag ever witnessed. Unilag was ready and the tour was ready. The result was going to be explosive.

First, this was learning on another level. Graced by the celebrity Samantha Walsh of MTV Base, the screen goddess brought her class, glamour and insights to the Fashion Business Masterclass of Dreamers. She was joined by Tsemaye Binite, self- described “slave to fashion” and known for his exquisite, luxurious tastes in his designs. There was also Denola Grey, undisputed fashion icon and TV celebrity. The trio have a common passion- fashion.

Together they did justice to their subject discussing fashion, style, fashion media and social media in depth. They described fashion as the cloth and style as what you do to the cloth. They described fashion media as the physical part of the business and social media as the digital aspect of the business. In all dimensions, they stressed the need for creativity, innovativeness and sensitivity to understanding the market and the customers.

Imperial Leather sponsors the Fashion Business Masterclass to empower up and coming designers through imparting knowledge as well as mentoring. The Masterclasses during the university tours are a foretaste of what is to come for those who make it to Bootcamp.

The finalists in the fashion design category will go through a business class session where they will learn helpful marketing tips. They also get to have direct engagement with the real Masters; top Nigerian fashion designers who will be training and mentoring them at the Fashion Incubator as they prepare for the final stages of the competition.

Pz Cussons sponsor the Fashion Business Masterclass and the Masters of Style competition. When asked why they believe so strongly in the project they said: “The first time we learned about the project, we felt like this was our project. It was amazing to see our values reflected here; courage, drive and networking. We loved to see that this was also about mentoring and training, but the real attraction was that this embodied the “can-do” spirit. Here in Cussons, we deeply admire that trait.”

Google was on ground to offer the free #GoogleDigitalSkills training and the students soaked this all in.

It was not all about learning. There was entertainment and lots of it.

University of Lagos showcased a wide range of talents; beautiful and handsome models strutting the catwalk with a feline grace, fashion designers with clever hands and eyes for beautiful clothing. There were memorable performing artists; singers with amazing voices, rappers belting out words with rhyme and depth and of course dancers who made music to come alive.

It was no wonder the students turned out en masse to be entertained, to cheer and to enjoy this event. As Day 1 came to an end, everyone was left wondering what Days 2&3 would be like. If you are like us, you would love to find out.

Keep following our highlights of this tour and wait till we tell you more.
