NANS protest on behalf of students expelled over election violence in LAUTECH
The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS blocked LAUTECH gate to protest against the expulsion the students.
The National students' union and some students of the institution reportedly blocked the university gate on Monday, July 30, 2018, to protest over the suspension and expulsion of the student.
On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, LAUTECH in an official statement signed by Registrar of the institution, Jacob Agboola announced the suspension of AbdulAfeez Adeoti, the son of a governorship aspirant in Osun State, Moshood Adeoti.
The University said the 12 students wereinvolved in a post-election violence that broke out following the Student Union Government elections on June 13, 2018.
Speaking to Pulse about NANS protest in their school, a final year student, Moshood Oladeji said NANS members blocked the school gate as early as 6 am to protest on behalf of the expelled and suspended students.
He said, ''the protest happened yesterday, the NANS came to protest on behalf of the recently expelled students led by their Senate President.
''Exams started yesterday, and the management said the students will not be allowed to write the exam. So the NANS came to protest against that verdict. The rumour we are getting now is that the suspended and expelled students would start their exam today, but I don't know how true that is. Now, the school management is looking into it again, probably they might consider another means of punishing the students aside from the expulsion and suspension they gave them''.
Meanwhile, LAUTECH students union president, Abiodun Oluwaseun has reportedly condemned the protest describing it as 'illogical'.
“Today, comrades from NANS JCC and NAUS came to LAUTECH Campus to intervene with regards to the case of the LAUTECH 12. Their intervention in student crisis is always welcome because they are fellow comrades, but the method they employed today remains unacceptable.
