Police nab 27-yr-old graduate for car snatching after gun battle
Anidi Reginald, a 27-year-old computer science and information technology graduate, has been arrested by Enugu police after a gun battle with a car snatching gang.
Anidi, who allegedly graduated from a university in Cotonou in 2013, was arrested around 11am on Saturday after a gun battle between his gang and police officers from the Ogui Division at Ozalla, in Nkanu West LGA of the state.
The gang members were fleeing after they snatched a Honda Pilot car, with registration number AAA 598 CH, from the owner at gunpoint, Punch reports.
They headed towards Enugu metropolis but were chased down by policemen who had been alerted by the victim.
A gun battle ensued at Presidential Road area after which Anidi was arrested while other gang members escaped.
The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.
He said an automatic pump action gun, one cut-to-size English-made single barrel gun, and live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
The police spokesman said Anidi, who blamed his involvement in crime on employment and peer influence, is aiding investigations into the activities of the gang.
Police say the car has been returned to the owner.
