Schools which had re-opened for the 2014/2015 academic year began in Cameroon saw only a trickle of students and staff as many had joined the exodus out of the Boko Haram infested region, Daily Trust reports.

The Cameroonian government has intimated of plans to relocate entire populations with several schools already destroyed.

Student Pulse gathered that some of the schools have been occupied by the insurgents.

A source who spoke with Daily Trust, 17-year-old Foncha Rene, said only a handful of students turned up for class in government schools in Kolofata.

“There is no way we can go to school.

"Some time ago the Boko Haram kidnapped some students in Nigeria and they have been attacking schools in the border zone of Cameroon,” Foncha said.

The Adamawa State University has also been shut down.
