Lagos State Government shut down churches, mosques

Not less than 53 worship institutions and hotels were shut down by the Lagos State Government over Noise Pollution

Not less than 53 churches, mosques and hotels have been shut down by the Lagos State Government.

The churches, mosques and hotels were sealed over their noise pollution and other environmental offences.

General Manager of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, Engr. Adebola Shabi in an interview after sealing the religious houses and the hotels, said that the premises were shut following complaints from the residents.

He added that these premises were approved as residential structure but have now been turned into churches and mosques, thereby making life unbearable for neighbours.

“It has been constituting nuisance to other neighbours.”

Shabi added that these owners of these structures were served notices long before this decision was made by the government.

He noted that the worship centres that often disturb the people were usually makeshift structures, adding that the hotels were shut for failing to conduct and submit Environmental Impact Assessment report.
