Speaking at a service, the General Overseer (Worldwide) said: "If you have been listening to the news, you will hear of an outbreak of Meningitis. We don't want any kind of plague to come near our children. So, we want to anoint them and set them apart. So, make sure all children are there at the special Holy Ghost service for children."

Adeboye has been criticised by some people who feel that he should have advised his congregation to go for vaccinations since that is the proper way to tackle the disease.

Here are some of the reactions:

So far, there have been over 2,524 cases across 16 states and about 328 people have died from the outbreak.

While Adeboye encourages people to go for anointing, Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari has said that God sent the outbreak on Nigerians to punish them for the sin of fornication.
