LASWA donates 250 lifejackets for safety at sea

LASWA takes its waterways safety campaign to various jetties and terminals.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) distributes 250 lifejackets to ferry passengers at Ipakodo, Ikorodu [LASWA]

The General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, made this known in a statement after the distribution of the lifejackets at Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu on Tuesday.

He said that LASWA took its waterways safety campaign, which began few months ago, to various jetties and terminal across all zones on Lagos inland waterways.

Emmanuel said that safety information booklets and flyers containing emergency numbers with passenger's safety guidelines translated into local languages were also given to ferry commuters to boost their confidence while using the waterways.

He said that the LASWA was committed to regular life jackets distribution to boat operators, riverine communities, school children and other waterways users to improve waterways safety in the state.

Emmanuel said that the constant distributions of safety kits had encouraged the use of water transportation while decongesting road traffic in Lagos.
