The General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Isidore Edet in Lagos on Friday called on Nigerians to continually pray for leaders and soldiers in the country.

Edet, who was represented by Col. Abubakar Garba, made the call while speaking with journalists after a special Juma’at prayer to commemorate the 2016 Nigerian Army Day.

He said "today's prayer is special because it is the last Friday before the Nigerian Army Day celebration.

"The Army Day celebration is a day set aside to commemorate and remember the efforts of our officers and men toward nation building.

"We use this occasion to pray for our leaders, political masters and military leaders and to ask Allah to give them the wisdom and patience to lead the country aright.''

He advised soldiers to be 100 per cent loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, other leaders and to the country in general.

On his part, the Imam of the Nigerian Army and Director, Islamic Affairs, Capt. Salisu Abdulkadir, also urged Nigerians to pray for the Nigerian Armed Forces and the country.

He said "if we pray for them, we are also praying for ourselves.''

He then urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the country.
