The 'National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute' claims a tracheotomy is meant to prevent infections which could develop when bacteria is allowed to enter the lungs through the breathing device.

Bobbi Kristina is still on life support at the Emory University Hospital since three weeks ago and in order to protect her from infections from the breathing tube, she has undergone a tracheotomy this week.

We had earlier reported that her father, Bobby Brown had flown to be by her side immediately after she was found unresponsive in her bathtub by a friend and alleged husband, Nick Gordon on January 31.

However, other members of the Houston and Brown families have also paid several visits despite Brown's lawyer claiming: "Various members of the family have provided media interviews; however, none of them are approved visitors to see Bobbi Kristina.”

Christopher Brown added to Us on February 13 that, "None of them have firsthand knowledge of Bobbi Kristina's treatment and the medical staff at Emory University Hospital has not communicated with them."

The statement also included a few words from Bobby himself, who requested privacy and expressed gratitude for all the love. "We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina and God is hearing our prayers."

He had also warned the media for giving out false reports about Bobbi's situation especially TMZ, saying, "The false reports that continue to appear in print and on the internet are egregious, false and will be dealt with at an appropriate time."
