Why singers shouldn't worry if GLO drops them

With the tight rivalry existent in the telecommunication sector, GLO’s loss of Psquare would soon be another firm’s gain.

Psquare

These are trying times for the superstar duo, Peter and Paul Okoye. It’s like their woes will never end.

The brothers began a feud last week with Peter Okoye going against the established order of business in their group and expressly fired Jude Okoye, over his ‘poor’ handling of their business affairs. That led to a slippery slope, with Paul sticking with big brother.

But right now, they need to come together. A common foe has taken advantage of a misdemeanor by Peter and the current feud to sink its teeth into their finances. Telecommunications giants GLO have reportedly refused to renew their contract.

Psquare got signed by GLO in 2010, in a deal rumoured to be worth N240 million. The relationship between both parties have been smooth until recently where according to reports, a top manager in GLO, disclosed the decision was imposed due to the show of shame that ensued between the company’s representatives and Peter, one half of the P-Square twins during the grand finale of the Dance with Peter talent hunt show.

He also admitted that GLO had defaulted on some of its promises made as the sole sponsor of the show and expressed dissatisfaction on how Peter overreacted by insulting them in the process. It was gathered that when Mike Adenuga heard of the development, he gave the order that Psquare can no longer be his company’s ambassador.

Does Psquare really need GLO? No.

The singers are arguably Africa’s biggest singing group and are currently one of the biggest entertainers on the continent. A termination of the GLO deal simply would open them up to be snatched by rival brands. At the moment, MTN, Airtel, and Etisalat will be monitoring the situation, waiting for a slip-up from GLO to make it a PR coup for themselves.

The Okoye brothers need not worry. There’s plenty of business waiting for them on the other side.
