Army donates food items, gifts to widows, wives of officers on battlefield

Edet said that the gesture was also extended to the widows of the officers and soldiers that died in the course of their duties.

The 81 Division held its carol night in Lagos with The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the division, Maj.-Gen. Isidore Edet attending the event.

Speaking at an interview with newsmen after the event, Maj. General Edet said the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has donated various food items and gifts to wives of the officers and soldiers on the battlefield.

He said, "There is nothing the division can do at this moment than to show love and care to the families of our dear officers and soldiers who are defending the territorial integrity of their fatherland.

''So, the least we can do at this moment is to bring their families together and share love and whatever we have with them, and to let them know that they are not alone.

"Most importantly, to demonstrate that all of us are behind them and will continue to care for them.

''For those that their husbands have passed on, this is to tell them that they are not alone; we are with them and God also is with them,'' he said.

Edet said that it was the tradition of the division to always give out gifts to officers’ wives and the widows.He encouraged those on the battlefield to continue the fight, saying that the whole nation was behind them and that God would grant them victory against the insurgents and terrorists.
