Government saves N1 billion via BVN

The government also announced that it will embark on a comprehensive biometric confirmation of all civil servants in the state as a means of further plugging the revenue leakages in the system.

The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike

The Rivers State has announced that it has saved about N1 billion through the Bank Verification Number (BVN) validation of civil servants in the state ordered by Governor Nyesom Wike, according to a statement from the state government.

The decision was reached at a State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Austin Tam-George, addressing journalists after the meeting, stated that the decision would improve the financial management of the state. The council also said the biometric verification was to confirm the actual number of civil servants in the state for effective planning.

Tam-George said the move became necessary as a result of the financial constraints being experienced by the state. With the verification process, the state government will be able to boost its finances.
