In the video, Vanessa belts out a few lines of the hit. But then, she flips her ponytail around and basically turns the song into a power ballad. When she sings "climbin,'" she makes a claw with her hand for emphasis. She has a room full of back-up singers chiming in, but unfortunately there's no Zac Efron (or Troy Bolton) to complete the iconic duet.
Vanessa captioned her karaoke clip: "Um. Heres a really bad, aggressive, and totally sober version of breaking free. Yep. That happened lol it hurts my ears but also makes me laugh lol the 'ooo yeah'. Dear lord lol ."

Vanessa's new version of "Breaking Free" is just one of the ways you can get your High School Musical fill. This week, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premieres on Disney+ when the new streaming platform launches Nov. 12. The spinoff is a scripted series, but here's hoping it brings all the 2006 nostalgia of the original hit.
