This dangerous road disappears underwater twice daily

If you're looking for crazy adventures, then maybe you should visit this road in France.

Passage du Gois

If youre new to France, then you should be wary of the roads you take.

This road, Passage du Gois, is not your regular stretch of road, it gets completely submerged in water twice every day. As unique as this road is, it poses equal danger to unsuspecting travellers.

The road connects the Gulf of Burnef to the island of Noirmoutier. It can only be used for a few hours twice a day before it gets flooded due to the rising tide.

Apart from these two times, the road is completely buried some 23 feet under the waves. There are special panels on either side that indicate when it is safe to drive through this road.

Every year, many people still get caught up in the tides sometimes, but there are elevated rescue structures all along Passage du Gois.

Trapped people can climb onto these towers until help comes and they are rescued or until the tide reduces. This means bidding your vehicle goodbye though.
