However, have you ever wondered what this small pocket on the front, on the right side, is for? Is this the perfect place for change, a lighter or a pendrive? Or maybe it's just decoration? Let's check!

Putting on five-pocket jeans is like traveling back in time. These popular trousers, which revolutionised the fashion world in the 19th century, originally had only four pockets. Two at the front, two at the back. It was the American, Levi Strauss, who designed them in 1873, who created the perfect clothes for manual workers, thanks to durable fabric and reinforced seams.

But what about that fifth pocket? Well, in those days, a pocket watch was standard. Most people wore it in a vest, but this was uncomfortable and the watch could easily fall out. This is where jeans came in handy - the little pocket was perfect for a pocket watch!

In the United States, this pocket is often referred to as a "watch pocket." Thanks to the chain to which the watch was attached, it could be easily removed. But times are changing, and with them, so is fashion.

Pocket watches were replaced by more practical wristwatches, which meant that the fifth pocket on jeans began to shrink. Eventually, no one put a watch in it anymore, so the small pocket at the front, on the right side, began to be used to store all sorts of small items.

So is that little pocket in your jeans just a relic of the past? Well, now that you know her story, you can look at her from a completely different point of view. Even if you don't carry a pocket watch in it , you can always put something else in it that you want to always have at hand.
