Human beings, over the years, have proven that we are creatures of habit, prone to doing the same thing over and over again.

Unfortunately, most of us have cultivated the bad habit of not exercising, with some using good genes as an excuse, but it in the long run, this habit is not beneficial.

Today, we are here to give you five ways to make exercising a habit as it is one of the best habits to cultivate.

  1. Be consistent: The best way to cultivate a habit is to always do it without failing. So, when setting up your exercise habit, ensure that no matter what you will achieve it.

  2. Exercise in the morning: While some might argue that they are not morning people, science has proven that it is easier to cultivate exercising as a habit if done in the morning. All you have to do is wake up a 15 or 30 minutes earlier than your usual waking time. This way, you can exercise before your day starts, it also ensures that you have no excuse. Also, it has been proven that our willpower is highest in the morning and reduces as the day goes, so it is easier to workout in the morning.

  3. Find your reason/purpose: It is so much easier to do something(exercise) regularly/repeatedly, if you know why, so find your purpose. Apart from the fact that it makes things easier, it also helps make exercising enjoyable. Also, thinking about your purpose causes the area of your brain that is responsible for your long-term goals to activate.

  4. Prioritize: Most times, when people start a fitness plan, they want to do so many things at time, for instance, they want to exercise regularly, stop eating after eight, and so, all at the same time. The truth is that we are not robots, and just as it took time, consciously or not, to cultivate those bad habits, it will probably take just as much time to stop them. So, make one of your fitness goals a priority, and once you have conquered that, only then should you move on to the nest, for example, make exercising a priority and  work on only that. This means that you can allow yourself to indulge in other vices like eating late and so on, as long as you remain disciplined and consistent in setting up your habit of exercise.

  5. Focus on your process: Most of us are familiar with the disappointment we feel when we focus on the goal instead of the process. We want six packs, so we struggle for a few weeks, then give up when we do  not see results immediately. In order to avoid this and make exercising a part of us, we need to focus solely on the process. Be thankful that you can do 50 pushups today when last month, you could only do 25. Also, do not set an unrealistic, results-based goal for your exercise routine. Just focus on making exercising a lifestyle and you will see the reults.

Remember to incorporate the above fitness tips into your day to day activities and exercising will become a lifestyle.
