Abubakar Shekau has appeared in a new video to announce that Boko Haram has taken over Gwoza in Borno and that it is now an Islamic caliphate.

In the 52-minute video, which was obtained by AFP, he said:
"Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in (the town of) Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate,"
“By the grace of Allah we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,”

Shekau said further that Gwoza now has "nothing to do with Nigeria."
Gwoza had recently been under siege by the insurgents who attacked a police college in the area and ousted the town’s Emir.
