'Okadaman' rider commits suicide over childlessness

A commercial motorcycle rider in Osun State has committed by hanging due to his inability to have children after many years of marriage.

It was gathered that residents of the area were thrown into shock as the lifeless body of Joshua was discovered dangling from a rope in his sitting room on Thursday, June 23, after his wife returned from work to meet the body.

The bewildered woman was said to have raised the alarm which drew neighbours to witness what had made her shout, only to be met with the body of the 'Okadaman' who was fondly called Landlord.

A resident of the area who was among the first set of people to see the dangling body, said the deceased had tied a rope to the roof of his sitting room and climbed on two buckets, hanging himself in the process.

Neighbours said Joshua had often expressed his sadness over his childless status after many years of marriage and that the frustration must have led him into committing suicide.

It was further gathered that the deceased had lived in the house for many years and some of the neighbours said his childlessness was a source of concern to him.

Some traditional worshippers were reportedly invited to perform some rituals before the body of the deceased was removed and deposited in a mortuary.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Babawale Afolabi, confirmed the incident.
