The police in Lagos on Monday re- arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court, Igbosere, a 17-year-old girl, Esther Abiodun, who allegedly bathed her employer with hot water.
She was alleged to have poured the hot water on one, Dupe Agba, while she was asleep at her residence, 20/21 Osho Street, Lagos Island, on September 14.
The teenager is standing trial on a two – count charge of assault and causing grievous bodily damage under Sections 171 and 243 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2011.
Although the defendant had pleaded guilty during her first arraignment on September 18 and was to be convicted on Monday by Magistrate W. Balogun, she changed her plea to not guilty.
Prosecuting Inspector, Philip Osijale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence a day after she was employed by the victim.
Osijale said the defendant boiled hot water and monitored her boss until she had slept off and then poured it on her body.
He alleged that the defendant told the police she committed the offence intentionally in order to teach the woman a lesson.
He said the assault caused the woman injury on her chest, hands and other parts of the body.
Osijale said the victim was still undergoing treatment in a Lagos hospital.
Having changed her plea, the Magistrate admitted her to bail in N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the matter till October 6 for mention.
