An Ikeja Magistrates Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to jail for stealing a generator set.
The accused, Fatai Obadeyi, was sentenced by the Chief Magistrate, M.O. Osinbajo, after he pleaded guilty to the charge, Punch reports.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that Obadeyi who lives at No. 3, Matomi Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, committed the offence on October 30 at about 3:00am at No. 55, Giwa Street, Ilupeju, Lagos.
The court heard that Obadeyi stole a generator set belonging to a man identified as Aro Olusanya, and took it to Mushin where he sold it to another man, one Ubong who is now at large.
Egunjobi added, “But luck ran out on Obadeyi when he came back to the same area on Nov. 1 to steal another generator and phones, property of Ojo.
“The convict was apprehended while trying to abscond with the stolen items and handed over to the police."
Osinbajo said, “Based on the facts of this case, confirmed report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to three years imprisonment without an option of fine,” she held.
According to Egunjobi, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
