Building supply company 84 Lumber had the most relevant commercial of the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League and yesterday, Sunday, January 5, 2017, the New England Patriots won the 51st edition.
For us in this part of the world, that do not care much about the sport, the half time performance and ads are the only interesting things about the Super Bowl.
Lady Gaga rocked the house during halftime and building supply company 84 Lumber stole the show with its dramatic ad.
Many ads aired during the Super Bowl touched on immigration but 84 Lumber had the best of the lot. The advert tells the story of a Mexican mum and daughter who travel all the way from their home to the American border. All hope seemed lost when a wall stopped them at the border but miraculously there was a door to let them in.
The advert was initially rejected by Fox for being too politically sensitive. 84 Lumber shortened it so that it could be aired and told viewers to watch the full version on their site.
The company website's crashed shortly after because it could not handle the traffic. According to reports, 300,000 Americans rushed to the website to see the end of the ad, two times more the traffic the site could handle.
Even though the ad has received a few knocks from conservatives, it has been praised for showing the welcoming spirit of America.
