Hacker dragged to court for stealing N68bn from bank

A man who hacked into the data base of bank and stole over N68 billion naira has been nabbed and charged to court.

An alleged hacker, Stephen Omaidu, has had his cup full at last after he was nabbed for hacking into the database of a second generation bank and stealing over N68 billion.

Omaidu was dragged before Justice M. A. Nasir of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja, on a two count charge bordering on theft by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Head, Media and Publicity on the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, told Justice Nasir that Omaidu, in connivance with Alhaji K. B. Kabiru, Godswill Oyegwa, Ben and Oliver, all at large, hacked into the server of the bank and transferred the money into their accounts.

Uwujaren said the offence is punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code Act.

However, Omaidu pleaded not guilty to the charges and his defence counsel, Gabriel O. Sanifu, urged the court to admit the accused to bail pending trial, saying the offence was bailable but the counsel for the EFCC, S. A. Ugwuebgulam, objected to the application on the grounds that the accused had failed to honour the administrative bail terms earlier granted him by the commission and could do same if not remanded by the court.

Justice Nasir ordered the accused to be remanded in the EFCC custody and adjourned the case till April 28 for ruling on the bail application.
