Father arrested for attempting to sell son for N100K

A bad father has been arrested for trying to sell his own son.

Bad father

A 40-year-old man, Monday Okon Inyang, who attempted selling his 11-year-old son, David, for a paltry sum of N100,000, to an Hausa man in the Bogobiri area of Calabar, Cross River State, has been arrested by operatives of the state Police Command, following a tip off.

Inyang, an indigene of Itu Local Government Area of neighbouring Akwa Ibom State, is now being held by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

According to reports, his undoing was when the alleged buyer known only as Alhaji, alerted the police, informing them that the father wanted to sell his son to him.

A police source informed that Inyang who reportedly confessed to the act, said he took the decision because his son had, on June 22, confessed that he was a wizard and possessed with evil spirits which has been responsible for the difficulties in his life.

Inyang allegedly said his son had begged him for forgiveness for all the troubles he had caused him as he was under the influence of the evil spirit.

The state Police Commissioner, Henry Fadairo, while parading Inyang, said the Alhaji who posed as a child trafficker, struck a deal with Inyang on the sale of the boy, pretending to be going to a bank to withdraw the agreed sum of N100,000, but went to the State Police Area Commander where he reported the matter.

Following the Aklhaji’s report, police officers were said to have accompanied him to his office, where Inyang was apprehended and the 11-year-old boy taken as exhibit, to the office of the Commissioner of Police.
