In some good news, the 33-year-old has avoided the microfracture surgery, which threatened to end his MLB career.
New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia to have season-ending knee surgery
New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia will undergo season-ending knee surgery, general manager Brian Cashman said on Friday.
Sabathia, a six-time MLB All-Star, last pitched on May 10 and finishes the season with a 3-4 win-loss record.
"He'll get it cleaned up," Cashman said.
"Obviously it will end his season and hopefully next year is a different story."

Sabathia is expected to recover in time for next season and is under contract until the end of the 2016 campaign.
