Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has revealed that 147 people were murdered in the state in 2014.

The Governor revealed this while swearing the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the state.
Godswill Akpabio, stated on Wednesday, January 14 during the swearing in of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Barrister Uwemedimo Nwoko and five new permanent secretaries at the Governor’s house in Oyo.
According to the Governor of the state, 17 cases were children killing their parents from September to December while four involved husbands/wives killing themselves during argument over text messages and phone calls.
Godswill Akpabio also lamented about the actions if some human activists who went in a protest calling for the release of a boy held over circumstantial evidence over the death of his father. Akpabio said that such actions could hamper further investigation of the case.
He said he would hand over the files containing the cases- some of which are pending in courts and others are being investigated by the police to the Attorney-General to determine veracity of the matter.
He condemned the wave of kills in the state and urged parents to pray for their children to avert the tragedy, also advising husbands and wives to avoid arguments over frivolous matters that could lead to death.
