Divisional Police Officer in charge of Central Police Station in Onitsha, Isa Abubakar, who confirmed the accident, said the injured persons were taken to hospitals, while the dead were taken to a mortuary in the city.

Isah said the number of casualties would have been higher were it not for the pavement at Asaba Park, which stopped the vehicle from ramming into the horde of commuters waiting to board vehicles to their destinations.
