Gunmen rob policemen, stab civilian to death

The attackers were said to have dispossessed the unarmed policemen attached to the 'A' Division Ughelli of their mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of money.

According to Punch, the hoodlums also stabbed to death a civilian, who was allegedly a rival cult member.

The incidents were said to have occurred last Sunday along Ojokor Street and Isoko Road of the town.

Recently, renewed activities of cultists have been on the increase in Ughelli.

The policemen were reportedly drinking at a bar when the suspected cultists, who were believed to be on the trail of a rival cult group members, attacked them.

One of the police victims said, "My phone was collected from me with a gun placed on my head at about 9p.m along Isoko Road while my colleagues who had gone to a drinking spot at Ojokor Street, suffered the same fate by a gang of hoodlums who were returning from a reprisal on a rival cult members."

The policemen could not challenge the bandits in the separate attacks because they were not armed, the report said.

It was gathered that the same cult group members also responsible for the stabbing of the deceased along Ahwinahwi Street beside Ughelli Market.

The deceased was identified as Edirin, who was said to be in his late 20s.

A senior police officer at the Ughelli Area Command was said to have confirmed the attacks.
