A nine-month-old baby has starved to death two weeks after his mother committed suicide as there was no one to take care of him.

A nine-month-old baby boy tragically starved to death in an apartment two weeks after his mother took her own life with a drugs overdose.

Sara Kessler and baby Casey were both found dead in the apartment in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, UK, with the boy's corpse in the Casey Kessler was found dead in the living room of the flat after a concerned relative visited the home.

Neighbours tell Mirror that the boy's Sara had struggled to cope after the death of her own mother in November last year and decided to take her own life with a drugs overdose.

Sara Kessler is believed to have died a week or two before her son.

Neighbour William Gonzalez had heard the boy crying inside the flat, but did not think anything of it.

He told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

"If I was closer to the noise, I would have done something. I didn’t know. I feel so guilty. I feel so bad.

The thought of that little kid running around after she died, looking for food. That’s what I’m upset about. It’s such a helpless feeling."
