Cleaner docked for stealing N5.2 million from employer

A cleaner who wanted to make fast money has been docked for stealing cash and property from his boss.

A 25-year-old cleaner, Opeoluwa Onasanya, who wanted to make some fast money without working for it, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Igbosere, for allegedly stealing the of N 5.2million from his employer.

Onasanya was docked on two counts of conspiracy and stealing under Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2011.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the accused, with others at large, committed the offence on October 8, at Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate Ikoyi, where he worked for one Prince Adekunle Adeyeba.

Balogun said Onasanya stole two Wrist watches valued $15,000 and a cash of $1,200, as well as two Diamond rings worth $8,000, shoes and other accessories valued at N600,000.

“The defendant was employed as a cleaner by the complainant and had only been employed for two months.

During the Sallah celebrations, he took leave to enable him celebrate Sallah with his family. It was while he was there that the complaint discovered that the defendant had stolen from him.

The defendant decided not to come back to the place after the celebration,” Balogun said.

However, Onasanya pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him and the Magistrate, H.O.A. Amos granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 while the case was adjourned till November 24.
