14-yr-old girl raped, murdered in South Africa

Another girl has been gang-raped and murdered in South Africa as such crimes keep growing by the day.

The crime wave that has been sweeping most parts of South Africa in recent times has refused to subside following the brutal

Sowetan Times report that Mhlongo was abducted by unknown men who took turns to rape her before stabbing and strangling her in a plantation not far from her home in Elokishini, near Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mhlongo mutilated body‚ partially clothed and riddled with stab wounds‚ was discovered by children playing in the trees on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

According to her sister, Hlengiwe Mathenjwa, the teenager could have been killed on Friday as she did not come home from school.

“We think she died on Friday night but we are not sure; all we know is that she didn’t come home.

They (police) told us that she was gang raped. Our family was worried when she didn’t come home on Friday night, so we began to look but we couldn’t find her‚” Mathenjwa said.

The victim's grandfather‚ Nkanyiso Mhlongo said what the teenager endured in the moments before she was killed was what worried him most.

“What has happened has shocked us as a family because there is so much we still don’t know.

We are very worried about the condition she was found in and what is worrying us, even more, is that we don’t know what happened to her.

These things are happening too many times for comfort. Society itself needs to participate in the fight against these horrible incidents‚” he said.

However, the police say they are trying to piece together Mhlongo’s last moments after she returned from school to change her clothes and then left to meet with her friends.

The family had reported to the police about Mhlongo missing on Monday‚ only to be notified that a body matching her description had been discovered days before.

In past few weeks, cases of women being killed by men in that country have been on the rise with the police doing little to protect the ladies.
