Institution shut as students protest over death of colleague

Protesting students damaged items at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi and also accused its staff of causing Mr Udeh’s death.

The accident which happened on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, left six other students critically injured.

According to Premium Times, the accident occurred when the bus conveying the students’ tyre burst and the driver lost control of his vehicle.

Odeh reportedly died after he and other and other students who were involved in the road accident were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, while the injured students are still on admittance.

The students are; Luther Laangi, 200-Level Agricultural and Environmental Engineering; Onuiigya Magida, 200-Level Animal Production; Cecilia Okori, 200-Level Fisheries; Patience Idoko, 200-Level Animal Production, and Emmanuel Omeh, 300-Level Animal Nutrition.

However, protesting students accuse the hospital staff of delaying Odeh's treatment and thus causing his death.

Premium Times reports that the students damaged items at the hospital and also accused its staff of causing Mr Udeh’s death.

Reacting to the violent protest, the university authorities have ordered the students to proceed on a mid-semester break with immediate effect.

An internal memo  signed by the registrar of the institution, Helen Nyitse states that “all students are expected to hand over all university property in their possession and vacate the campus before 2:00pm on Wednesday, 15 August, 2018 until further notice”
