CULT CLASH: 3 Students' Death Report Is Mere Rumor — Police
The police have denied media reports that three students died in a recent cult clash at Niger Delta University
News reports following a violent clash between AY and Vagas cult groups in the institution, claimed that three students died in the bloody clash.
But the Bayelsa State Police Command has denied the deaths, stating also that the incident occurred outside the campus and not in a lecture hall as earlier reported.
Spokesman of the Command, Alex Akhigbe said two students suffered machete cuts but not were killed.
“The cult clash between AY and Vagas cult groups happened outside NDU campus and not inside examination hall as alleged," Akhigbe said.
“One of the cultists sustained machete cut injury on his forehead, while in another clash, one 100-level student had his palm severed. No life was lost in the two cult-related incidents."
Akhigbe urged the public to disregard the erroneous reports which he said were "a calculated attempt to cause apprehension and incite students against the school authority.”
He added that the security agencies in the state are working to ensure peace and security.
