Lecturers allege death threats as they begin indefinite strike

MAPOLY ASUP Chairman said the union members will not offer their services until the government comply with their demands.

The lecturers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) also alleged threat to their lives saying that some unregistered vehicles are entering the school.

The Polytechnic's ASUP Chairman, Kola Abiola said while speaking to newsmen on Friday, November 4, said that the unregistered vehicles had on two occasions followed him to the junction of his residence.

Abiola added that the development is a breach of security arrangement in the Polytechnic.

He further said the union members will not offer their services until the government comply with their demands.

There have been some back and forth between the Polytechnic lecturers and government recently over upgrading of MAPOLY to become Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, MAUSTECH.

The government in the meantime had also announced the establishment of Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia.

The announcement of establishing Ogun Poly in Ipokia has however caused conflicts between the government and MAPOLY lecturers as the latter raise questions on the role of lecturers in MAUSTECH.

Abiola said that the announcement of the upgrade is affecting the school negatively as prospective students are not willing to seek admission into MAPOLY.

It will also be recalled that the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun recently announced that Moshood Abiola Polytechnic will stop to exist in 2021.
