As Nigeria continues efforts to bring the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak to an end, schools in Rivers State have been asked to provide pipe-born water for pupils and staff use.
Schools Without Pipe Borne Water To Be Shut Down
As part of efforts towards ending the spread of th Ebola virus, the Rivers State has said it will shut schools that do not have pipe borne water
NAN reports that the Commissioner for Education, Miss Alice Nemi, warned that the state government would soon commence a shut down all primary and secondary schools that fail to meet the requirement.
Neni, who was speaking during a sensitisation workshop organized by the state Ministries of Education and Health for teachers in public and private schools, said the availability of water in schools would make it easy for staff and students to maintain a regular hand washing ritual.
Maintaining personal hygiene, especially washing hands regularly, and avoidance of physical contact with other persons are essential to staying free of the dreaded virus.
More than 2300 people have been killed since the latest outbreak.
