Gombe students attack governor over unpaid bursary, demand payment

Student in Gombe state have flayed their Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, for failing to pay their bursaries despite his campaign promises. They say they want their monies.

Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe state has been criticised by students of the state for non-payment of their bursary which he promised during his election campaigns in 2011.

Rising from a meeting on Sunday, the executives of the Gombe State Students’ Association (GOSA), told journalists that they have received the bursary only once since 2011, Daily Trust.

The Public Relations Officer, Comrade Mubarak Abubakar, said Dankwambo had promised during his political campaigns promised to pay an increased sum, only to default on assuming office.

“During his campaign in 2011, the governor promised to increase our bursary to 100 per cent but he failed to fulfil that promise," Abubakar said.

He said the students are only asking for what they were promised.

“What we are asking for is payment of our two years bursary. We collect the least amount, yet government is not living up to expectation,” he said.

The Financial Secretary of the association, Comrade Mustapha Usman Hassan, added that they hope the government will look into the matter.

“We have concluded that the bursary needs to be paid and we want government to look into this matter.”

There was no official statement from the government on the matter.
