He adviced the Vatican to look into its own history before levelling accusations of casting stones.

In an interview with Reuters, Mehmet Gormez, head of the Religious Affairs Directorate, the highest religious authority in the Muslim dominated Turkey said "The Vatican will come out as the biggest loser if we are all giving account for past sufferings and pain caused.”
He also said that the Pope’s comment was immoral, and could not be reconciled with basic Christian values.
He also said that Turkey should be applauded by the Pope for harbouring millions of displaced Syrian citizens.
