‘Discrimination against all female Muslims must stop’ — Islamic Cleric
An Abuja-based cleric is demanding for the Federal Government to do more to stop the hate against hijab-wearing Muslims.
He revealed his desire in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday, March 20, 2018.
Al-Yolawi, the Chief Imam of area 10, Garki Abuja Mosque, reminded the Federal Government that “wearing Hijab is a fundamental human right of Muslim women.“
This is why the cleric is appealing to the government to protect the rights of all Muslim ladies.
He made reference to the Section 38 (1) of the 1999 Constitution and Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right, which says that every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
Cleric wants hate against hijab-wearing Muslims to stop
In his words, “I will like to use this opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government and elites to ensure respect for the constitutional rights and privileges of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria.
“The constitutional rights of Muslims are often not being considered in certain things, for example, look at the case Firdausi Amasa, a law graduate who was denied call to bar on the account of wearing Hijab."
There have been a couple of cases of discrimination against Muslim women with hijabs.
The latest is involves Amasa Firdaus, the female law student, who was turned away at her call-to-bar ceremony for refusing to remove her hijab.
Her story has caused many Muslims and organizations to protest the kind of discrimination.
