Rapper talks about new single with Davido, Hip-hop, debut album

The rapper talks about the gradual acceptance and evolution of Hip hop and other foreign sounds by Nigerians.

Iceberg Slim drops by at the Pulse Nigeria studio where he talked about his new music ‘Wave’ featuring OBO singer Davido, and how the video of the song came about.

When asked if the wave song is a step towards his releasing his debut album, he says “That’s actually what we’ve been talking about, that I should release maybe a mixtape or an EP before the end of the year but really it’s just to focus on trying to have good songs right now, we’re not trying to force anything, we just wanna make good music, create a sound, create a lane, and take it from there, so right now it’s all about the wave.”

He speaks of Hip hop then and now, arguing it wasn’t so popular back then, but of now our music has evolved, and becoming more acceptable with rappers such as Phyno and Reminisce spitting in their different languages and they being recognized for it. Also he believes Nigerians are now more receptive of foreign sounds such as Trap music.

Also speaking on whether Hip hop has been sold out, “Hip hop is not just music, Hip hop is more of a culture, it embodies different things…” Iceberg said, adding that he doesn’t see nothing wrong with diversifying as a Hip hop act into singing alongside rap for example.

He speaks of trap music in the sense of Nigeria cultivating foreign culture and making it our own, adding that the movement is getting accepted in Nigeria, and it’s basically all about good sound.
