‘We’ll continue to ensure free and fair elections,’ INEC Chairman says

Jega made the statement on Wednesday, April 1, while presenting Certificates of Return to President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega has said that the commission would continue to try it’s best to improve the electoral process.

Jega made the statement on Wednesday, April 1, while presenting Certificates of Return to President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo.

“We believe that it is important to keep on reforming and improving on Nigeria’s electoral process. It is important that we do this for the integrity of our governance process and for deepening democracy in our country,” Jega said.

“We pledge to all Nigerians that as a commission, we will continuously do our best under all circumstances to ensure free, fair, credible and peaceful elections. We have done our best under all circumstances and we have realized that a large number of Nigerians utilized the opportunity and came out to exercise their franchise,” Jega added.

The INEC Chairman also thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28 and 29.
