NNPC shuts down Kaduna, Warri refineries

The Kaduna and Warri refineries which resumed production in December and January have been shut down.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was said to have stopped production at the refineries due to vandalism by the Niger Delta militants last week.

The NNPC spokesman, Ohi Alegbe, who confirmed the shutdown, said the move was to avoid any fire incident along the pipelines.

He said the corporation will continue to monitor the progress of the refineries and the Nigeria Gas Company and update the public at the appropriate time.

The refineries which which stopped production on Sunday, January 17, have a combined capacity of 235,000 barrels per day.

Pulse recalls that militant groups attacked pipelines in Niger Delta last weekend after the arrest former militant leader  Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo.
