It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 8pm on Wednesday, May 17.
Two soldiers were injured in the process and they are being treated at the accident and emergency section of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
"We heard the unfortunate sound and did not know exactly what it was. Before we knew it, we discovered that it was at one of our checkpoints," a soldier who pleaded anonymity told The Cable.
The military personnel added that "there was no casualty on the civilian side because our men prevented the suicide bomber from going into the residential area."
