Has Freeze gone too far this time around?

Freeze is notorious for his polarizing comments and opinions but his most recent outburst might just come back and haunt him.

Cool FM OAP, Freeze

Yesterday, June 28, 2016, Freeze shared a photo of the US Basketball team for the Rio Olympics and commented that all the players in the basketball team are black and decried the fact that there was no single white player on the team.

“This is absolute racism!!!!! Not a single white man in the 2016 US basketball team? If reverse were the case and it was an all white team, we all know what to expect!

“What's good for the goose is good for the gander. We pull the racist card all the time, often for no good reason, how come the whites aren't complaining and shouting racism? Remember, for a similar reason, Will Smith, his wife Jada along with so many black people boycotted the Oscars this year. #LetsBeFair #SMH #Racism #ATasteOfOurOwnMedicine” wrote Freeze on his Instagram page.

Not to derail from the main issue but Freeze is right. African-Americans went on a rant when no black actor was nominated for the Oscars. Using the same logic white people can also claim that it is racist to have only black players going to the Olympics.

Anyway after expressing his opinion on the issue, an unidentified woman sent a direct message to Freeze concerning the issue. “What iz ur bizness with US team u Lebanese half cast. Talkative. I can tell u have got a small dick from u look.”

Freeze fired back at the woman with a more raw statement. “Maybe your mother’s pussy was too wide that’s why she felt that way...where jeep, train and trailer, dey pass and where airplane dey how e no go wide?”

From someone who is a public figure and has worked in the radio industry for close to two decades, Freeze’s reply was highly unnecessary, tasteless and uncouth.

People in the limelight should watch what they say and not blurt expletives in a bid to express themselves or defend their opinions. Freeze has been around for so long to make such an unguarded statement. His moment of indiscretion was screen grabbed and is now all over social media.

This might have a negative effect on Freeze’s brand. Expressing unfiltered opinions is one thing, using foul language and crass words is another thing entirely. Brands might have cold feet when it comes to Freeze. Controversy is good when used properly but a statement like Freeze’s is potentially bad for business. Brand managers like family friendly celebs over x-rated popular people.

Does Freeze regret his statement? Well, we have reached out to him if he regrets replying the way he did. He has not yet responded.

Anyway, while Freeze is now seen as a social critic he shouldn’t lean towards the side of making reckless statements that might harm his brand.
