Falana, Temi Dollface, Diana Badu, others thrill guests at maiden edition

The audience mainly comprised of grown middle-aged men and women received and danced to tune of the refreshing set of alternative musicians.

The Alternative Music Concert event put together by Efizzi entertainment team was held on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at The Garden, Nakenohs Blvd, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The concert which was to kick off by 7pm didn't start until a couple more hours later, starting with singer Maka, who was graceful with her performance, exercising great breath control when required as she  performed her latest song 'Sinner', where she admits her frailty as a human who makes mistakes that offend God, as well as 'Ife' and 'Mu na gi' both songs centered on love and its issues.

The next act was Nigerian Afro-soul singer DianaBada, who appeared to be mixed race. Bada made good use of the stage in performance of her songs sung in Yoruba and English. She even showed some flashes of skill with the rap genre. Her performance was pretty decent.

Then Falana, the multi-skilled musician was ushered in. She starts off her performance singing a cover of Nina Simone's 'Feeling good', playing the Cajón alongside, wowing her audience.

Other songs to come off her included 'Tug of war', 'Re-infiltrator', 'To Bernard', a cover song of Fela's 'Lady' and 'Start again'.

Falana carried along her audience quite well throughout her performance, leaving most spellbound with her vocal dexterity and overall stage persona. She was an interesting sight to watch and also listen to.

Temidollface and her Audacity band came through next. Temi appeared holding a bird cage, eccentrically dressed, ready to give the audience a show, and show she did give.

Dollface's energy was infectious as she made the rather laidback audience  participate in the music and performance delivery and enjoy doing it as much. She performed her songs 'School your face', 'Beep beep' and 'Pata pata' amog others. One thing was for sure, there was not so much of a dull moment with Temi.

Chemical engineer turned singer Moyeen did her thing as well, with a highlight of her performance being her sampling 'Pon Pon Pon', instrumental a song by Dagrin., and 'Angel of my life' by Paul Play Dairo. Moyeen admitted to being a huge fan of the late rapper Dagrin.

Although there were a few negligible hiccups, The Alternative Music Concert achieved its aim, which is to showcase other new sounds not dubbed 'mainstream' by majority and perhaps also make a case for the argument of these crop of artists and their music as actually being mainstream after all.

The majority only just have to begin to be open-minded about them.
