Harass Female Students And Get Dismissed, Akpabio Warns Teachers
The Akwa Ibom State government says it will dismiss any teacher found guilty of harassing female students
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State gave the warning at the 50th birthday anniversary of the state's Commissioner of Special Duties, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem at the Ibom hall ground.
“When about 500 girls visited government house last weekend on account of the 100 days of the adoption their colleagues in Chibok, Borno state, I did promise that this administration will safeguard their future.
The governor revealed that the state has effected a plan to enable affected students report cases of abuse directly to the state government.
“We made available to them numbers to call whenever they are harassed or intimidated in the course of their studies in school," he said.
Akpabio added that where authorities fail to address the issue of abuse, the punishment would be extended to the head of the school where it happened.
"Any teacher who is found harassing any of them would be dismissed from service and the principal who fail to take action when a matter bordering on harassment is brought to his table would also face the wrath of this government,” he warned.
Akpabio also said his administration would continue to fight illegal activities damaging the state's image.
